You Blew It! Release Earns Nods
Posted by Good Friends Records | Filed under Derek's Updates, News
We’ve had some lovely nods for these young upstarts and hope to see more. They’ve just now started to get things together, so be patient. There’s a winter tour in the works for these guys, as well. Keep your ears to the ground.

UPDATE: You Blew It & The Mystery of the Skunk Ape
Posted by Good Friends Records | Filed under Derek's Updates, News
Greetings from the world of Good Friends, everybody! I understand that there’s some business to attend to. Our webstore went down for a hot minute, and I’d like to apologize to everyone who tried to order but couldn’t while it was down, on behalf of the company. Having your store go down seems bad, but while it was down we were able to look at it and try to figure out ways to make it better. So, we’re going to work on doing that.
Also! We’re going to be helping Orlando’s YOU BLEW IT with their upcoming EP “The Past In Present”. We’re slating it for an August 3rd release. They’ll be on tour for that, too.
Over the Winter a few of us got together and created “The Mystery of the Skunk Ape”. There’s more information about it at: http://fakeproblems.com/sape.html
Also! Fake Problems’ is hard at work in the studio. We’ll be on Warped Tour all summer, so check us out there– we’ll have all of our releases available there! <3 Derek

The Summer of ‘09
Posted by Good Friends Records | Filed under Derek's Updates
Hello Everybody! We’re all terribly sorry about the lack of updating and general information about what we’ve been doing– it’s just that we’ve been so busy stuffing envelopes! We want to thank all of the people who’ve been ordering; and a special hat tip to those on the other side of the Atlantic.
Also! Fake Problems has been having a great time on tour. There’s a lot of stuff on You Tube. I’ve decided to save my imbeded media for promotion of a film Sean and I made on tour, named Le Percolator. Le Percolator
Future releases? Well, we’ve got some stuff cooking. It’s all in the works. I’ve got to let Derill shoot off the big announcements, but, who knows, perhaps it’ll be a v-log or something. Our Frank Turner has a new record coming out on Epitaph this fall. It’ll be serious. Paper+Plastic/Epitaph are doing all of the wax stuff now adays, but since those are both real labels we’re very happy to pass Frank on. Actually, he’s going to let us release one more of his older records, in the future.
And now, everyone’s favorite part of my updates– the shit talk.
I recently ran into these four losers in Buffalo, NY. They’re a Fake Problems / No Idea rip-off from South Florida. Instead of coming under the wing of yours truely, these innovators are really shaking up us corporate boys by opening for us then being rude. If they hadn’t run off so quickly I would be posting a police beat from that evening. I hope somebody does something awful to their van or something comically bad happens to them.
- A cold hard look at when assholes shapeshift.

Fake Problems on Tour!
Posted by Good Friends Records | Filed under Derek's Updates
Fake Problems is now on tour! We’re going to be doing shows with bands Crime In Stereo, Look Mexico, Cobra Skulls, Frank Turner (UK), The Aggrolites, CMJ, The Fest, and a few other things here and there.
Also, apparently I messed up the 500 record’s art by leaving the ‘templete’ intact over the image. No worries, it wont delay anything and it’s practically like it never happened. No biggie.
Now, to point out another mindless Fake Problems Shit Talking who thinks that they can get away with saying whatever they want on the internet and think that I’m not going to find out who they are.
“There seems to be an undertone of smug sarcasm in their music, which falls flat on it’s face when the listener finds out the album isn’t actually particularly good.”
Whatever. That’s cool. I think that you don’t know how to treat other people. And you don’t have a band for me to crap on because you will never know how to work or get along with other people. Oh, and you’ll never find true love. And you’ll probably hit someone’s puppy or something horrible. Or get struck by lightning.

Slaving Away

I’m really stoked on all of the Good Friends Stuff. Today, we stuffed envelopes to go out to record stores and such. I hope Newbury Comics takes some of our stuff. We’d be really stoked on having stuff in that store. In Massachusetts, it’s where I bought my first two vinyl records in my teens– The Promise Ring’s Wood/Water and Against Me!’s Reinventing Axl Rose.
Has anybody been addicted to the Olympics? I faintly recall watching them four years ago– but not as much as this year! It’s really nice; say, you wake up at four in the morning– bam! Original, awesome television to watch. That, and, i’ve been reading Pride & Prejudice. It’s the slowest book ever. I’m in the sixties, and, I decided, if I’m not hooked by the 100’s, I’m bailing on it and never looking back.
Colton’s finishing his recordings around now. I’m going to help him book a tour around. I can’t wait for him to get going full-time. He’s great. Really. –Derek

Wow, This Thing REALLY Works?!

Kirk re-vamped the website after he pushed me into a pool and destroyed my cellphone. It’s some weird WordPress system that is really high-tech and fancy! I’m really excited — it’s rather interactive for those of us behind the curtain– so expect us to update a bit more often! I’m trying to figure out something to give you. Oh– there’s this video that Casey and I made in Omaha! Let me post it here:
Good Friends Records Summer Update
Beyond that, we JUST got the masters for the Fake Problems “Evel Tribute” Picturedisc. Bridey Bowen’s doing the art– well, finished the art. We’ll post some of it soon, as we approach the launch of the single. In that same package came the Broken Gold stuff– now we just wait for the artwork to get finished. If anybody’s ever pressed a record, you know that the art takes forever!
We have a bunch of stuff happening that I wish I could elaborate on. It’s not my place to say, but, we are all really excited about everything! Cheers to everyone. Looking forward to go on tour next week — please bring us beer and food and plan on having a good time.
Bands that I think are rad, right now, and I’m totally loving their new stuff:
- Sink the Bismark
- Jaguar Love
- The National
- Okkervil River
- Gaslight Anthem
I was on this website called Punknews.org and this user named Brennis was insulting Fake Problems! I couldn’t believe it. So I did a little leg work, his name is Brian Thompson and is from New Haven, CT — and he’s a freakin’ jerk. His parents didn’t teach him how to act properly. Or how to keep himself– I mean, look at that photo! That’s him! All the way left! With the HAIR! Hahahahha!
Allright! I’ve got to get back to work. Allright! –Derek
